Pet orthopaedics

Custom supports and orthoses for animals: non-surgical alternatives that restore mobility and quality of life.

Anyone who lives with a dog knows it’s part of the family too, and when it stops moving well the whole household feels it. Veterinary orthopaedics has come a long way, and today many injuries that once meant surgery can be treated with custom supports and orthoses. It’s the service that sets us apart: at our orthopaedic centre in Xirivella we bring our decades of experience with people to the care of animals.

Who it’s for

For dogs and other pets with mobility problems: cruciate ligament tears, hip or elbow dysplasia, osteoarthritis, tendon or joint injuries, age-related weakness, post-operative recovery, or animals that, because of age or health, aren’t good candidates for surgery. Also for families looking for an alternative or a complement to veterinary treatment to ease pain and improve their pet’s quality of life.

How we do it

Always in coordination with your vet, who diagnoses and directs the treatment. Based on their assessment, we measure the animal and design a custom support: stifle braces and joint stabilisers, supportive orthoses, support harnesses and walking aids. We test the fit so it’s comfortable and doesn’t chafe, and we show you how to put it on and introduce its use gradually, with patience and positive reinforcement. Then we follow up, because every animal adapts at its own pace.

Benefits

  • A non-surgical alternative or complement for many injuries.
  • Custom supports, comfortable and well fitted to the animal.
  • Pain relief and a gradual return to mobility.
  • A valuable option when surgery isn’t advisable.
  • Always coordinated work with the vet.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace surgery? Not always, and it isn’t our decision to make: the vet decides. In many cases a custom orthosis is a real alternative when surgery isn’t indicated or is best avoided; in others, it’s a complement that helps with recovery.

Do I need to see the vet first? Yes. We always work from the veterinary diagnosis so the support is suitable and safe for your pet. If you bring us the report, we start from there.

Which animals do you treat? Mainly dogs, who benefit most from these supports. For other animals, tell us the case and we’ll assess whether we can help.
